I was commissioned to draw wolves and birds on the walls of the University of Chicago’s Smart Museum of Art as part of a collective exhibition on, “belonging.” The birds all have significant nesting, social, or vocal behaviors and are endemic to Chicago which makes them the perfect metaphor for our mission. Wolves howl and they are cool. The animals know where they belong in their pack and do their part and in order to communicate they ‘broadcast’ information through the air waves through their mystical howls.
I’m beyond thrilled that my watercolor mono-print, Wolf With Starlings was selected to be included in this moving text. It was originally created as a teacher sample for a mono-print project I was teaching at Walter Payton College Prep. It was lovely meeting other urban wildlife enthusiasts and sharing stories. This is just the beginning of our conversation.
